Podcast #34 - Podsafe Song About Political Hyprocracy, Repression and Clergy Gone Wrong.

A song that responds to wrongs done gravely by politicians and clergy
alike.

Em       B7   Em  B7    Em
Once the myth becomes a nightmare

G
D   Em Am B7  Em
Wherein church abuses lie

Em       B7   Em  B7
Em
Some ordained become false prophets

G       D   Em Am   B7   Em

Blinded to the real most high.

G         D       Em        B7
Some will
say you work within it.

Em     Am       Em  Am  B7
Others cry out "topple
down."

Em   B7 Em   B7   Em
Babylon will fall unaided

G      D   Em
Am B7  Em
Safety has no golden crown.

When your leaders all disgrace
you
Time will come the youth shall lead
Truth prevails slow but
surely
Turning you away from greed.
Piecing back the myth together
Look to
what your elders taught
Peace can't come when love's perverted
Victory's only
in battle not fought.

Podcast #33 - Song talking about the event which took down the band Milli Vanilli

Download | Duration: 00:02:10

Remember when NARAS took Milli Vanilli's grammy away because they found out they couldn't sing well and were using studio musicians to lip sync over for their MTV videos?

Back then it was still a scandal if people found out you had lip sync'd even part of one song in a performance or recording!

My how times have changed. It's only a scandal now, if you lip sync poorly.

Oh well. Here's a song about that.

Loosely to the "toon" of Poison's "Every Rose Has Its Thorn."

Enjoy.

Oh, and yes. This song was recorded using the Belkin Tunetalk attachment onto a 60G iPod inside of a really nice soundproof booth at an undisclosed location.

Podcast #32 - MAJESTIC: Performance From Way Back When

Download | Duration: 00:03:23

And yes, we warmed up REO Speedwagon on a flatbed truck or something...

Sound: Navy Relief Carnival. Groton, Conn. Approximately July, 198?
Photo: Dolcom Community Center (Maybe) May or June of the same year or maybe  the next.

Majestic featuring Sue Menhart, Joe Hickey, Jimmy Venditti, Richie Egner and Marc Frucht.

Oh, this just in, Sue has asked me to make sure I point out that she was like 16 years old when we gave this performance. I don't even know why I didn't think to include that important tidbit of info along with this podcast. Well it wasn't really a podcast to be honest. I mostly just placed it here temporarily so I can give the URL for a couple friends to Right Click on.

Oh well, so I'm sorry I forgot to mention it. This performance you're hearing here was from us, a bunch of high schoolers. Majestic. Way back in the day. This is NOT how Sue sounds a week ago or a month ago or last night when she kicked out an awesome blend of covers and original tunes on guitar (with a special guest or two too!) at Riverwalk last night.

This was a very long time ago, but I still think it sounded amazingly great!

Podcast #27 - Same Guitar Different Setup.

Alma, the bamboo guitar made by Jun Reputana. Brand new bridge pins installed. More sustain and more tone. This very old song, (My Favorite Things) wasn't as good as I wanted for showing off many different tones, but I tried to play it all over the place to make up for that. Enjoy.

Notes: Recorded with just a digicam facing the sound hole and then Audition was used to strip the .WAV off of the video, and very light reverb was added before saving to 128 x 44.1

Podcast # 26 - Another Melody To Show Off A Guitar's Amazing sounds.

Here's another recording of the same guitar.
This time is still iRiver style, but I brought it into a very nice
recording studio and used one of the booths to eliminate every
bit of noise I could.

Very sweet. I can't wait to get some time to do some real recording
of this thing. It really is the greatest sound I've ever heard out of
anyone's guitar.

The song I chose here is an original composition I made a very
long time ago to show off the lows of a guitar. Left hand style
is to literally use only one finger and slide a lot; which you'll
hear.

Right hand style is to just use thumb and middle finger. (P) and (M)
Low A string and Low E string are tuned traditional but used sort
of as drone notes, modulating back and forth between the two to
make it sound much more complex than it really is.

Enjoy.

Podcast # 25 - Just A Melody To Show Off A Guitar's Amazing Sounds.

Instrumental just to show off the new guitar.
Recorded with an iRiver's built-in condenser mic.
(I cannot wait to record this guitar in a real studio!)
Mixed down with tools.
If I remember right I just added reverb and hard limiting and that's it.

Just guitar,
just one track,
and just instrumental.

I mainly put it up to show off how absotively posilutely
heavenly this guitar sounds. It's handmade completely of bamboo
by a guy in the Phillipines named Jun Reputana.

Podcast # 24 - A Song About Avatars

Download | Duration: 00:00:56

Major labels try talking their artists OUT of penning
songs about newer technologies, suggesting they stick to
older standards such as the Phone and the Snailmail.
Here's a risk past that. A song about avatars.
Inspired by a friend of mine who wrote a song
that included cellphones.

Podcast # 22 - Elders Meditation Of The Day

Elder's Meditation of the Day - January 30

"Bright days and dark days were both expressions of the Great Mystery, and the Indian reveled in being close to the Great Holiness."
--Chief Luther Standing Bear, SIOUX

The Great Spirit created a world of harmony, a world of justice, a world that is interconnected, a balanced world that has positive and negative, this way and that way, up and down, man and woman, boy and girl, honest and dishonest, responsible and irresponsible, day and night. In other words, He created a polarity system. Both sides are to be respected. Both sides of anything are sacred. We need to do good and we need to learn from our mistakes. We need to honor what takes place in the daytime and we need to honor what takes place in the nighttime. WE learn that we need to learn and we see what we are supposed to see by staying close to the Great Spirit. We need to be talking to Him all the time, saying "Grandfather, what is it you want me to learn?"

Great Spirit, let me learn today that all things are sacred. Help me stay close to You, my Creator.

Playing around with some new toys. An iRiver gives off a surprisingly good hot live recording.
Defaults to a 128 x 44 mp3 too. Nice! All I added to the live recording in popo (post production)
was some noise redux, reverb and a tiniest bit of pitch shift. Enjoy.
